The idea was conceived in 1900 by André Michelin, the founder of Compagnie Générale des Établissements Michelin, the famous tire brand.

In the fever of the automobile revolution, André Michelin decided to create a guide to promote car tourism. The founder wanted people from all over the world to visit the emerging auto market, so he decided to create a roadmap that would bring together a group of quality restaurants and hotels for the target audience.

The Michelin Guide was gaining unexpected proportions and became the main indicator of the best restaurants and hotels in France and, later, in the whole world.
