Considered the "chef of the century" by the French restaurant guide Gault Millau in 1989, he was also the most decorated in Michelin's history, earning a total of 32 stars in 13 different countries.

Robuchon opened his first restaurant in 1981, Jamin, located in Paris, which would earn three Michelin stars in its first three years of operation. In 1994 he opened a restaurant with his own name: Joël Robuchon restaurant.

French chef Joël Robuchon died at 71, after losing a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Gordon Ramsay, for example, described the former French chef as "the godfather of Michelin". It was his work that inspired him to start his professional career in the culinary field.
